To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on Chocolate
for Writers, we have a very special guest! Sophie Moss is the talented author
of The Selkie Spell, a beautifully
written novel about a young doctor who moves to a remote Irish island to escape
her scary and dangerous past.
Tara Moore doesn't expect to fall in love with the
island, or its captivating and sexy pub owner, Dominic O'Sullivan, but she soon
finds out that this enchanting island escape holds even more surprises for her
than unexpected love. With sweet (and steamy!) romance, a pinch of fairytale
magic, and frightening suspense building on each page, this book seriously has
it all.
Sophie Moss is an amazing debut novelist who took me straight to the
gorgeous cliffs of Ireland without having to pay for the plane ticket, and she
has a special St. Patrick’s Day gift for her readers! The Selkie Spell is free on
Amazon for the next three days. So
grab a Guinness (or a glass of wine:), charge up your Kindle, and
prepare yourself to be swept away to Ireland with this enchanting page-turner.
Juliette: I absolutely love the setting of
your debut novel, The Selkie Spell.
When did your love for Ireland start?
Sophie: I
studied abroad in Galway, Ireland, but it was a chance trip to the magical,
windswept island of Inishbofin that inspired my first novel. The moment I
stepped off the ferry, I felt like I was home. It was the strangest feeling:
being so far from home and yet sensing I belonged. I wrote an essay about the
quirky villagers and the haunting beauty of the island and won the top writing
honor awarded to a single graduating senior at the University of Vermont
because of it. The summer after graduating, I discovered the movie, “The Secret
of Roan Inish,” and first learned of the selkie legends. Intrigued by the
thought of seals who can transform into beautiful women on land, I decided to
weave my love of romance novels, Ireland, and fairy tales into one delicious
novel!
Juliette: The Selkie spell has a really
magical, fairy-tale feel to it. If you could live in any fairy tale what would
it be?
Sophie: This
is a tough question as I could easily see myself living in dozens of fairy tales! (I’m slightly
obsessed with the new TV show, Once Upon a Time.) But I’ll settle for Sleeping
Beauty, because I wish I could sing as well as the songbirds in the forest and
I love the smell of roses:)
Juliette: Tell us about the sequel to The Selkie Spell. When do you anticipate
its release? I'm getting impatient to see what happens next!
Sophie: The Seal
Island trilogy continues with Caitlin and Liam’s story, coming out this summer!
As readers of The Selkie Spell know,
Irish islander Caitlin Conner has been in love with Liam O’Sullivan for as long
as she can remember. But just when he’s starting to look at her as more than a
friend, a mysterious woman arrives on Seal Island and captures his heart. As Caitlin begins to uncover the truth behind the woman's lies, she discovers that Liam is trapped in a dangerous enchantment. The only way to win back the love of her life and break the powerful seductress' spell is to make Liam fall in love with her instead.
Juliette: The sequel sounds fabulous! I can't wait to read it!! Thanks so much for stopping by Chocolate for Writers to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with us, Sophie, and for giving readers a chance to discover your incredible debut novel this weekend!
